A Heart for Healing, A Passion for Creating

Last week, I had the privilege of traveling to Guatemala on a mission trip, joining an incredible team of surgeons and nurses who came together with one purpose: to bring healing, comfort, and hope to people in need.

Serving there reminded me exactly why I became a nurse in the first place. Nursing has always been more than a career for me—it’s a calling. To hold someone’s hand, to pray with them, to bring even a small measure of relief in their most vulnerable moments—that is sacred work.

Over the course of the week, our team performed 154 life-changing surgeries. Each one represented more than just a medical procedure—it was a chance for someone to regain health, restore dignity, and step into a brighter future. In addition, we were able to serve 997 patients through essential healthcare support, empowering them to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

As I reflect on this experience, I realize how beautifully it ties into every part of who I am. I’m a surgical nurse, yes—but at heart, I’m also a creator. Whether I’m helping restore someone’s health in the operating room or designing experiences through Mission Possible Event Planning + Design here in DFW, my purpose remains the same: to serve, to inspire, and to bring joy.

This trip was a blessing—a reminder that our gifts are meant to be used for others. Healing, creating, designing—it’s all about making life a little brighter, a little more hopeful, for the people we encounter.

I returned from Guatemala with a full heart, renewed passion, and deeper gratitude for the opportunities I’ve been given to impact lives—both near and far.

On the mission trip, I had the privilege of bonding with an extraordinary team of medical professionals from across the globe. From early mornings to late nights, we stood by one another through every case—sharing not only the work, but also our spirit and strength. Out of those moments grew lifelong friendships, grounded in compassion, faith, and a shared calling to bring healing and hope.
